The first ever Around the World in 82 Dishes took place in the August this year. The month-long food promotion was a first of its kind event in the district, which has become increasingly popular as a foodie destination spot. Food lovers come from all over the city, as well as the globe to experience our critically acclaimed, well-crafted cuisine, so the business association worked with food vendors to create an event that would raise the most revenue for them while promoting the district.

The association had decided that year one success would mean ten participating businesses. Due to its extreme popularity, we listed 45 businesses on our interactive map and in our player handbooks. A 350% increase over our hoped-for participant number.

The player handbook was available in four languages: Chinese, English, Spanish and Vietnamese, and there was a 1-page digital download version that only listed member businesses in addition to the webpage and a 27-page hard-copy version that listed all the participants.

During the course of the month, participating member businesses gave away stickers in exchange for meal purchases and many discounted items. There were also four flash-sticker events, where stickers were given out for free by local non-food businesses, Garry Small Saab, Garry’s ELF Solutions, and On Point Community Credit Union.

The event generated approximately $1600 in new business, or an average of $100 for every business association member, for whom participation in the event is a free benefit of membership.
